I got transferred to West Columbia. The ward here is really really cool. It reminds me of the wards in Utah. It is an English ward. We only had three Hispanics there, one family. They're members. I had to translate for them. Translating is more than just knowing the language. It is a hard mind game. We had head sets and stuff, just like the conference center. My companion is Elder Dunn. I still haven't gotten to know him very well. The second day we were together he got in a bad bike crash. We were on a dirt trail going from one street to another. There is a big dirt mound a little smaller and steeper than the hill in Day's Market's parking lot. He hit the dirt mound going faster than 20 mph. He flipped upside down and landed on his face. He broke his helmet in almost four pieces. We went to the Emergency room, and he has been on Vacadin (pain killer) ever since. He was told not to work till he was off the drugs. We are in an apartment with two English missionaries. From Thursday on I have been working with one of the English elders, Elder Fulmer. He is really cool. I have worked around him before. He and I are good friends. He is moving to Utah after the mission, and we are going to do a lot of outdoor adventure stuff together. His companion is Elder Bryant. He decided that since he was a doctor, he should always be home with my companion. I guess that is ok because now I get to work with a great friend. At the same time I can't wait for Elder Dunn to get better so I can get to know him, and wont have to teach the Spanish lessons all by my self. It's kind of hard without someone to trade off with.
Yesterday we found someone with a really bad alcohol addiction. He was crying for help. He said he had talked to other churches for help, but none of them could help him. He said he had been praying for help. I feel that part of the reason I was sent here was to help him. At the beginning of the lesson, he kept saying he couldn't quit, but by the end, he said, "I know I can quit, and Jesus Christ is going to help me". It made me feel really good to see his attitude change, and I know that he is right.
I am feeling so happy and peaceful since I’ve been here. I feel that this is going to be a great transfer.
I loved your talk, Samuel. I am giving a talk next Sunday. Your talk was so creative, and spiritual. You will make a great missionary. I wish I could have you as one of my companions. I heard you beat Majoras Mask. Good job. That game is hard.
I guess that also on my birthday wish, I would like a new watch. That would be cool. I broke mine. Also, tell dad thanks for the $75.00. I ran out of money and groceries and was wanting to go shopping today.
I love all of you, and miss all of you.
Elder Finch.
