I love the blessings of being a missionary. This past week I learned a lot about how to be a good missionary. This seems to be the way we learn as missionaries. From what I hear, it is very consistantly every six months that a big step is taken towards becoming a better missionary. The MTC and the first month in the field are the first and biggest step. All the others seem to happen over just one or two weeks. Obviously we are always learning. I think that it is something about the fact that I have reached a "Mile Marker" that gives me a great desire to apply all the principles that I have already learned. Probably the biggest focus/ change I have made comes from President Ukedorf's talk a couple years ago named "Good, Better, Best". Basically the idea is to do the best things we could be doing, and not to just be satisfied with the good, or better.
A lot of how to know what is the best is through inspiration. Missionarys love almost all promptings recieved, but sometimes they don't. My companion and I were strongly inspired that we needed to drop the G family. This was probably the hardest time I have ever had following inspiration that I knew was revelation. I kept trying to find a way around it, but when it came down to it, I knew what I had to do. Dropping an investagator can be a great tool in their conversion. The Gs have the faith, but they don't have the works. The know what they have to do, to follow the gospel, and they are doing all the convenient steps, listening to the missionarys, reading the Book of Mormon, and Praying as a family, but they are not trying hard enough with trying to go to church. They came once, which was great, but they havn't even tried since. They should have come to General Conference, because the language doubt wouldn't be an issue there. The prompting said we could pick them up in three weeks, but not sooner. I still have faith that they will be baptised, just like with S.one of my first investigators.
S is doing really well right now. One of her friends, J, Proposed to her. He is taking the missionary discussions right now. Elder Urry is no longer in Greenvill, so he is being tought by Elder Hayword, and Elder Garcia. J plans to be Baptised, the He and S are planning on being Married Civily, and in a year, being sealed in the Templw. I am so excited for them.
I did get the package before Easter. I made some brownies during breakfest, that we could eat during Conference brakes. It reminded me of all of you to watch General Conference with home made desserts, even though we had to eat them quickly so we wouldn't loose any time working. I was so excited to se the FHE manuel, and the other spanish church supplies, and the Hymns and Children songes in Spanish. We plan on having FHE with the Gs after we pick them back up, so I have not given them any of the stuff yet. I am saving the other brownies for Investagators or members.
There are some spanish speaking Jahova's Witness sister Missionarys in our area. We saw them once. They have been telling the hispanics not to talk to us. They have probably talked to close to all the hispanics in our area. I know that even though they are doing this, God will still bless us with sucsess. They came to the Gs before we got here, but they wouldn't listen to them.
I guess that that is all the time I have for today.
I love you all. Good bye.
Elder Finch
P.S. Thanks for sending that letter to rebekah for me Mom. I wish I could have written more to you, but P day was almost over. And yes, I do like getting both emails, and Dear elders. My companion and I actually got the Stomach flue on Saturday, and so I still got to be comforted by my mom and sister while sick even though you were miles away.
