Thanks Giving in Guatemala (Nov 29)

How’s everyone doing? I hope Thanksgiving was fantastic!
On Thanksgiving day we didn’t do a thing. Actually, no in the morning I said “Happy Thanksgiving!” To my companion and then we ate a little “cup cake” Guatemalan style. Then we went to work and it didn’t really occur to us that it was Thanksgiving. It’s funny, I thought the holidays would be the hardest on the mission, but they’re not. They’re just like normal days, but even happier.
The next day, a family invited us over for a Thanksgiving lunch. We had rice, salad, and they managed to find a little turkey. It was very nice of them. It was weird to eat rice for Thanksgiving, but there’s rice for just about every meal so we weren’t surprised.
On Tuesday my companion and I went out to eat with President Lorenzana. He is such a wonderful mission president! We loved talking to him and were all laughing the whole time. He told us a bunch of funny stories and just had a good time. At one point I told him something funny and he just laughed and laughed and then said, “How fun!” He has so much to do and some things are pretty stressful right now, so he just enjoyed having a chance to go have fun. On Sunday he came to our ward. He walked in and was shaking people hands. Then he saw me and smiled really big and gave me an army solute. I like being friends with President Lorenzana. He’s a great person and wonderful mission president. This week sometime he’s going to take my companion and I to a little American mall here. I’m excited. I’ve been hearing rumors about this place my whole mission. Angel’s baptism is on Saturday. I’m looking forward to it. His mom is getting discouraged. Since she decided to not live the law of chastity, she’s now suffering from a lack of the Spirit. Her husband may be moving to the states. I sure hope so, because they’re never going to get married. If that happens, then she can get baptized. We have a couple other investigators that seem positive. We just need the ward members to make the necessary sacrifices to receive the blessings of baptisms. Ward members are key. Our ward has the potential to be amazing!
Playing basketball last Monday was so much fun! I just ran around and played all P-day long and it was so fun! I love my mission! This is a group of people I am grateful and happy to be a part of. There are a lot of people here I respect a lot. I have a great mission.
I am still enjoying granola!
I thought about you all on Black Friday. That’s fun that Hannah, Michelle and Aunt Debbie were in the newspaper! I bet Amber had a blast with her friends, and bummer about the fridge. Looks like it’s finally time to re-model that kitchen J I’m trying to picture how to do it..but it’s hard because compared to the kitchen’s here ours is huge and I can’t really remember the dimensions. If it helps we could switch fridges. Ours would fit. It’s two feet by three and a half feet. J
I love you all!!! I’m looking forward to calling on Christmas! Just four weeks away! Love,
Rebekah
