Rebekah And The Protection of Angles

This week has been wonderful. I wish I had time to share about all of the people we were able to contact this weekend. My companions and I obtained 26 really solid referrals for the missionaries in the field. There is one experience I want to share because it really strengthened my testimony about the power and mantel of a missionary. Yesterday, my companion and I were in the middle of a really good conversation with a potential investigator (and now current investigator :), when these two men from Hondurans came up to us. They were very rude and scary. They said a lot of inappropriate things. At first I just ignored them and continued talking in Spanish with the other gentlemen. (The men were speaking English...which was probably a good thing...) But they were persistent. We were contacting in the Plaza, and so there were a lot of people around, just sitting. People seem to do that here, they go to a big 'park' and just sit. The more persistent of the two men from Honduras took my companion's hand to shake it, and then pulled it up to his mouth and kissed it, but it was more like a slobber. I said a prayer asking for the powers of Heaven to help us, because it was a dangerous situation, not only because there were so many people just watching to see how we handled it, but because the men were intoxicated. From this point on, the Spirit lead every single action. The man then proceeded to shake my hand. I shook his hand briefly and then pulled my hand firmly away. He was annoyed and said a few profane things (thankfully in English so the people around didn't understand.) Then when he attempted to step closer, I said with as much power and conviction as you can imagine 'Sir, I am a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ.' I don't know what other people saw, but apparently they could feel what I felt. The two men's faces were struck with expressions of fear and they literally ran away. And then, the better miracle happened, the people watching literally gathered around us to listen to our message. I am grateful for the power of Heaven on the Earth protecting me as a missionary. When I called upon protection from Heaven and said the words, with all the conviction of my being, 'I am a representative of the Lord, Jesus Christ' I felt an actual unseen barrier placed between them and us. I felt not one or two angels, but an army of soldiers from the other side of the vale, ready to protect the Lord's righteous servants, and the literal representatives of Jesus Christ.

You do not need to worry about my safety at all. Guatemala City is dangerous, but I know, as strongly as I know anything, that the Lord is literally protecting me. I know, just as in all those cases in the scriptures, like Nephi, that not a hand intending harm will be able to be placed upon me. In a very real sense, as a missionary I am surrounded by protection from the Savior of the World, whom I represent. There have been many other miracles this week. There was a gentlemen sitting in the plaza yesterday with his hands buried. We talked with him. Can you imagine for a minute the logic of this...I have been learning Spanish for just under five weeks, before that, I didn't know any. I talked with this man, who only spoke Spanish for forty minutes. He expressed a lot of concerns and we both spoke from our hearts. He was taught by the missionaries when he was 25, but didn't know how to recognize the truth. 'Everyone wants you to join their church' he said. By the end of the conversation, he tearfully communicated, 'I believe you. I believe that I can know for myself, and I want to have the missionaries teach me again.' The whole day was like that. How am I able to communicate effectively with people who know no English? Only because this is the true Church, and I am doing the work of the Lord. I love being a missionary. I witness miracles, many miracles, daily, and I'm still in the CCM. I love you all. Thank you for you prayers and love, they help a lot. I love you each and pray for you each.

Love, Hermana Rebekah Finch
